Privacy Policy

Last updated: June 2025

The short version:

dB Decibel processes everything on your device. We do not collect, transmit, or sell any personal data. The app uses your microphone only to measure ambient sound levels — no audio is ever recorded or stored beyond your screen.

1. Who we are

dB Decibel is an iOS application developed and published by Levin Schwab. Questions about this policy can be directed to levin.schwab@gmx.de.

2. Data we collect — and don't

We collect no personal data. Specifically:

  • No name, email address, or account is required or collected.
  • No audio is recorded, stored locally beyond the live session, or transmitted.
  • No location data is collected.
  • No usage analytics or telemetry are sent to any server.
  • No crash reports are transmitted automatically.

Measurement data (dB readings, session logs, calibration settings) that you choose to save lives exclusively on your device and is never synced to external servers by the app.

3. Microphone access

dB Decibel requests access to your device microphone solely to measure ambient sound pressure levels (SPL). The audio signal is processed in real time, on-device, to compute a dB value. No raw audio data is recorded or stored at any point.

You can revoke microphone access at any time in Settings → Privacy & Security → Microphone.

4. Advertising (AdMob)

The free tier of dB Decibel displays banner advertisements served by Google AdMob (Google LLC). When you launch the app for the first time in the EU/EEA, you will be shown an ATT (App Tracking Transparency) prompt. If you consent, Google may serve personalized ads using device identifiers.

If you decline, only non-personalized ads are shown. No personal data flows from dB Decibel to Google beyond what Google's SDK handles with your consent.

Upgrading to Pro removes all ads entirely. Google AdMob's own privacy policy applies to ads served: policies.google.com/privacy.

5. Third-party SDKs

The only third-party SDK included in the app is Google AdMob (free tier only). No analytics SDKs, crash reporters, A/B testing libraries, or social login libraries are included.

6. Data retention & deletion

Because we do not collect or store personal data on our servers, there is nothing for us to delete. Any measurement data saved by you on your device can be deleted by uninstalling the app.

7. Children

dB Decibel does not knowingly collect data from children under 13 (or the applicable age in your jurisdiction). The app does not require or request any personal information from any user.

8. Environmental measurement disclaimer

dB Decibel is designed for general environmental sound awareness and personal curiosity. It is not a certified, calibrated, or regulated measurement instrument. Do not use it for medical decisions, occupational health assessments, hearing-protection compliance, noise-regulation enforcement, or any purpose where a certified SPL meter is required by law or professional standards.

9. Changes to this policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. The current version will always be available at this URL. Continued use of the app after a policy update constitutes acceptance of the revised terms.

10. Contact

Questions, concerns, or data requests (though we have no data to provide) can be sent to: levin.schwab@gmx.de
