Privacy Policy

dB Decibel is an iOS application developed and published by Levin Schwab. Questions about this policy can be directed to levin.schwab@gmx.de.

Your sound measurements stay on your device. Specifically:

• No name, email address, or account is required or collected.
• No audio is recorded, stored locally beyond the live session, or transmitted.
• No location data is collected.
• Recommendations for our other apps use aggregate view and open counts, described below. No sound measurements are included.
• No crash reports are transmitted automatically.

Measurement data (dB readings, session logs, calibration settings) that you choose to save lives exclusively on your device and is never synced to external servers by the app.

In Settings, the app can fetch up to three recommendations for our other apps. The choices depend on the app you are using, App Store availability and iOS compatibility, not on your sound measurements or personal activity. App icons load from Apple’s image servers. Opening a recommendation takes you to the App Store with a campaign label identifying the source app and placement, never a person.

We count qualified views and successful opens in aggregate. Our service stores daily counts with the source app, recommended app, placement, configuration revision and optional presentation variant. It does not store an account, advertising identifier, device identifier, persistent visitor identifier or personal profile, and it does not receive sound measurements or microphone data. These counts cannot tell us who installed an app.

Supabase hosts the recommendation service. Network requests necessarily expose an IP address to the hosting provider for delivery and security; our aggregate counter does not store it. See Supabase’s privacy policy. Apple processes icon requests and App Store visits under Apple’s privacy policy.

dB Decibel requests access to your device microphone solely to measure ambient sound pressure levels (SPL). The audio signal is processed in real time, on-device, to compute a dB value. No raw audio data is recorded or stored at any point.

You can revoke microphone access at any time in Settings → Privacy & Security → Microphone.

The free tier of dB Decibel displays banner advertisements served by Google AdMob (Google LLC). When you launch the app for the first time in the EU/EEA, you will be shown an ATT (App Tracking Transparency) prompt. If you consent, Google may serve personalized ads using device identifiers.

If you decline, only non-personalized ads are shown. No personal data flows from dB Decibel to Google beyond what Google's SDK handles with your consent.

Upgrading to Pro removes all ads entirely. Google AdMob's own privacy policy applies to ads served: policies.google.com/privacy.

The only third-party SDK included in the app is Google AdMob (free tier only). No third-party analytics SDKs, crash reporters, A/B testing libraries, or social login libraries are included.

Recommendation counts contain no persistent user identifier and cannot be linked back to your installation. Any measurement data saved by you on your device can be deleted by uninstalling the app.

dB Decibel does not knowingly collect data from children under 13 (or the applicable age in your jurisdiction). The app does not require or request any personal information from any user.

dB Decibel is designed for general environmental sound awareness and personal curiosity. It is not a certified, calibrated, or regulated measurement instrument. Do not use it for medical decisions, occupational health assessments, hearing-protection compliance, noise-regulation enforcement, or any purpose where a certified SPL meter is required by law or professional standards.

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. The current version will always be available at this URL. Continued use of the app after a policy update constitutes acceptance of the revised terms.
